3. The authors say that computer game makers want their interactive products to one day achieve the status of “first-run films”. Do you think this will happen? Explain.

It actually would not shock me.  A few years ago the video game industry passed the movie industry on the list of highest grossing media type and with the popularity of DVDs and online viewing services (both legal and illegal) people are seeing movies at theaters less often than they used to meaning “event movies” do not have the mystique they once did. Video games, especially multiplayer games, offer more time use to consumers since games usually have higher replay value than movies have reviewing value.

2. Which “dimension” do you feel has the largest impact on remediation, social or economic?

3. Has the devolpment of new technologies effect the process and frequency of remidiation?

I just thought it was interesting that researches who’s primary goal is presumably trying to help people would allow an issue like authorship delay the release of their findings.

I would like to have read more of this article to see if this the writer gives an explanation as to why the left may be more prone to collaboration than the right.

Response to Andrew’s Questions

1.) Do you think academic competition between students is the right approach in the classroom or is collaboration necessary for higher education to take the next step in teaching students?  Explain your choice?

I feel both have their merits but if I had to choose one I would argue that collaboration is the more correct aproach.  While competition can inspire new ideas and increase effort, it can have destuctive consequences.  Students become more interested in one upping each other than actually learning and applying knowledge.  Unlike private enterprise which is something of a zero sum game (for my business to succeed I have to beat you) academics is something that can allow everyone to “win”.  If the ultimate goal is to learn as much as possible there is no reason everyone should not be allowed to succeed.

Analise Questions (Response)

1) What is your favorite documentary and why?

The obvious answer is Anvil: The Story of Anvil which tells the story of the seminal heavy metal band, but that probably has as much to do with my love for heavy metal music as it does the quality of the film. (Though it is a fantastic film that has become a critical darling even amoungest hard rock haters). For none metal docs, I would say Man on Wire.

Podcast Responses

Ivan– Very informative. One of the most interesting sports stories I have heard. I remember when this happened and how anticlimactic it was when he failed to qualify for the Olympics. I like the mix of interviews intercut with the narrative.

Joe C.– Push It might have worked better at the end but still really effective. Feel like I’m stuck in a time warp. Singing for the most part was actually pretty solid.

Joe T.– I like zombies. Music helped set the mood. Very informative. I think I can survive the apocalypse.

John (Ki Hoan)– Small editing issues but tells and effective story about integration into a new culture.

Kelli– Definite narrative. Transitions could have been slightly cleaner but certainly creative.

Annie– Would have liked to know your exact position at the DI earlier in the piece. Good story.

Ricky– Informative and it was nice to have two people so they could bounce ideas off each other.  Really made me want a pizza.

Vince– Funny. I like football.

Analise– The first song probably went a bit long, but overall entertaining.

Laura-Gave a real feel of what people experienced in the war. Definitely better than mine.

Andrei– Quirky. Interesting use of special effects and music. I couldn’t have done that. Cool editing.

Andrew– Some parts were hard to hear but I thought it was really cool that you took advantage of the stereo to pan parts to different speakers.

Billy– I liked the music and quirky arrangement.

Bobby– I could tell that not only did know your subject matter but that you really cared about it.  It was informative and entertaining.

Brian– Love the use of the Halloween theme.  Pretty good use of voices.

Chang– Nice story.  The sound effects sometimes drowned out the vocals.

Chris– Like being trapped in a time warp. Did drag a bit.
